World T20 qualifiers to have 16 teams

The ICC World T20 tournament next year will have two teams qualify for it through a long-drawn qualifier tournament in UAE next year.
A total of 16 Associate and Affiliate teams will be a part of the ICC World T20 qualifiers that will be played in March next year to decide on which two teams will qualify for the World T20 next year. It will be a 72-match qualifying tournament that will be played in the UAE from March 13 to 24.

The 16 teams are divided into two groups of eight sides each, and they will be involved in a round-robin league tournament. The top three teams from each group will then move into the second round of the tournament. The top side from each group will play in a game in which the winner will qualify for the World T20.

Pakistan to host Sri Lanka in UAE

Three venues in the UAE will allow Pakistan to host Sri Lanka in a full-fledged series consisting of Tests, ODIs and T20I
Pakistan will play their home series against Sri Lanka at the neutral venue in the United Arab Emirates. The itinerary for the series against Sri Lanka was announced on Tuesday and there will be a total of three Test matches, five ODIs and one T20Is on the tour.

The teams will arrive in the UAE on October 15 and the series will go on till the November 25. The series will be played a week after the end of the Champions League T20, where one Sri Lankan side could end up participating, Ruhuna. Sri Lanka had last played Pakistan in 2009.

Pakistan could play home games at UAE this year

It has been confirmed that the Pakistani national side will play its home matches in UAE this year.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be the Pakistan cricket team’s acting home for this year’s home series’ against Sri Lanka and England.

Pakistan’s home schedule against Sri Lanka, taking place in October-November 2011, includes three tests, five ODIs and a lone Twenty20. On the other hand, the schedule for the visit of England, taking place in January-February 2012, has not yet been finalized, but reportedly will include three Tests, up to five ODIs and up to two Twenty20 matches.
