The Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a spectacular victory, with their bowling, in their last match against the Rajasthan Royals.
They could only make 136 runs in their 20 overs, as Biplab Samantray helped them to reach this respectable total, at least. However, the Sunrisers bowled superbly, and stopped the Royals on a dismal score of 113.
Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra were extraordinary with the ball, especially Mishra, who grabbed 2 wickets and gave away only 8 runs in 4 overs. These two bowlers will again hold the key for Sunrisers chances, in their important match, tomorrow.
The batting is strong but the top order has not been delivering off late. If they want to win tomorrow and make it to the playoffs, and be competitive at that stage, they need to improve their batting at the top, otherwise the opponents will seek advantage and the Sunrisers will have to go on the back foot early in the innings.
The two teams that are reeling at the bottom of the table will be battling it out at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium when the lacklustre Pune Warriors India side takes on the hapless Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Pune Warriors India lies at the bottom of the table while the Kolkata Knight Riders enter this game in seventh spot. The tournament is over for them as progression is not possible. They can however play spoilers if they get a string of victories together.
Pune Warriors India has been substandard throughout the tournament. They showed glimpses of form with two emphatic victories, one over the Chennai Super Kings but since then it has been all downhill.
Other than Aaron Finch there has been no other player who has stepped up and taken the initiative. The absence of Michael Clarke and the uninspiring form with bat, ball and captaincy by his replacement Angelo Matthews has hurt the Pune team. They would be eager for the season to end so as to get back to the drawing board to prepare for next season.
After losing yet another match, the Kolkata Knight Riders will now face the ever improving Rajasthan Royals, in the 47th fixture of IPL 6, tomorrow. The Eden Gardens, Kolkata is all set to host this expected enthralling encounter.
The Knight Riders poor form continued in the last match as well, as they lost to the disappointing Daredevils too. The Knight Riders only managed to set a target of 137, which the Daredevils chased with 13 balls to spare. Even Sunil Narine’s economical bowling could not stop the Daredevils.
Failing to convert good starts has been a big problem for the Knight Riders batsmen, and it was widely evident in their previous game. Gautam Gambhir has been out of form for long, and he should also rest himself like Adam Gilchrist and Kumar Sangakkara to give youngsters a go.
Eoin Morgan’s heroics cannot be achieved in every match, and the whole top and middle order needs show a bit of responsibility, if the Knight Riders want to rise up from the bottom of the pit.
Even in the bowling, they are largely dependent on Narine, which is a worrying sign for the team. The other bowlers also need to perform in the upcoming games, as the Knight Riders look to save face.
After securing a much needed victory in their last match, the Delhi Daredevils now look to extend their winning streak against the Kolkata Knight Riders, tomorrow. This 44th fixture of IPL 6 will be hosted by the Daredevils at Raipur.
The two Indian pacers, Irfan Pathan and Umesh Yadav came good at the right time, as the Daredevils successfully defended their 164.
These two blokes have the potential to be successful at this level, but lack of commitment and fitness is the main problem. Nevertheless, they are getting into their groove, and the team will require another decent performance from them tomorrow.
Virender Sehwag and Mahela Jayawardene, have got starts and they are due for a big performance again. These two players and Warner will be the key batsmen for the Daredevils tomorrow.
On the other hand, the Knight Riders lost a high scoring game against the Chennai Super Kings. Maninder Bisla almost matched Michael Hussey’s superb knock, as the Knight Riders reached 186 in pursuit of 200. Bisla managed 92 off just 61 balls, in comparison to Hussey’s 95 off just 59 balls.

Another great knock from Michael Hussey at the top of the order, also helped the Super Kings in pursuit of 160. He has been very consistent for his team, and another good performance is on the cards tomorrow.
The Super Kings are very lucky that all their six batsmen are in great touch, and hence they can stick with the same combination for the few upcoming games. Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, and Dwayne Bravo all have contributed to the team, and hence they have been able to chase down big scores.
The Kolkata Knight Riders lost to the Mumbai Indians, as Mumbai chased down 160 in the last over. No bowler, except Sunil Narine could bowl with control and therefore Mumbai were able to secure victory.
After cruising to a comfortable victory in their last match, the Kings XI Punjab will now face the Kolkata Knight Riders, who lost a close match in their previous outing. This 35th fixture of IPL 6 will be hosted by the Knight Riders at Kolkata.
The Kings XI, in their last match, chased down a target of 121with ease, against the disappointing Delhi Daredevils. They reached the score with 5 wickets remaining, and three overs to spare.
Praveen Kumar and Harmeet Singh bowled with control, and were the key bowlers in restricting the Daredevils to 120. Later, all batsmen contributed fairly to chase down the target quite easily.
Adam Gilchrist form is still a concern, and he is occupying the opening slot, mainly because he is the captain of the Kings XI. It is high time that he gives himself a rest, to provide chance to other players.
All the bowlers are also performing well, and the Kings XI are expected to prove themselves as a tough opposition for the Knight Riders, tomorrow.
After a bad performance in their last outing, both the teams, the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders, will lock horns in the 33rd match of IPL 6, tomorrow. The Knight Riders are set to host Mumbai, at one of the highest seating capacity cricket grounds, the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The Mumbai Indians, in their last match, were denied a victory from a Virender Sehwag juggernaut. The Mumbai team lost to the Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets quite surprisingly, as they had set a good target of 162.
Nevertheless, Sachin Tendulkar’s half century and Rohit Sharma’s belligerent 73 of just 43 balls were a few positives for Mumbai from the previous game.
Although, Mumbai batting lineup is strong and very rarely fails to make an impact, but at times, their bowling can be wayward and expensive.
Mitchell Johnson and Lasith Malinga are destructive when on song, however, they can be pretty expensive sometimes, so their bowling can be a bit unpredictable. But in T20s, bowlers are due for an expensive outing in some matches.
After throwing away an easy looking victory in the previous match, the Kolkata Knight Riders now face the Chennai Super Kings, who secured an emphatic victory in their last match. The Knight Riders will be hosting this 26th match of the season in Kolkata.
The Knight Riders went down unexpectedly against the Kings XI Punjab, while chasing a target of 158. Sunil Narine managed a hat-trick, but still could not save his team from defeat.
The Knight Riders looked good at one moment, requiring only 47 off 7 overs with 8 wickets still in the bank, but they threw it all in the end.
They have world class players, in Jacques Kallis, Gautam Gambhir and Eoin Morgan, but the Knight Riders total dependency on these international players, is costing them matches that they look like winning. Other players also need to show some responsibility in the game tomorrow.
Their bowling has a lot of variety, and is performing up to the standard. They just need to deliver their best tomorrow as well, and expect their batsmen to back them up.
After achieving a close victory against the Delhi Daredevils, the Sunrisers Hyderabad now go head to head against the Kolkata Knight Riders. This 17th match of IPL will be hosted by the Knight Riders at Kolkata.
In their last match, the Sunrisers overcame the Daredevils in the last over, as they chased a paltry 114. Dale Steyn was the star performer for them, grabbing 2 wickets and giving away only 11 runs in his full quota. He was also responsible for hitting the winning shot.
This team has a good amount of experience at the top of the order, and after failing in the previous match, the onus is on Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White to deliver tomorrow.
Thisara Perera is also expected to provide the final blitz at the end of the innings, if required. Moreover, his bowling will also be an added bonus for the Sunrisers tomorrow.
The charged up Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma are also likely to make early inroads with the new ball tomorrow, as they showed signs of combined brilliance, in the previous match.
After tremendously sabotaging the feeble side of the Delhi Daredevils, the Rajasthan Royals and the defending champions of IPL – the Kolkata Knight Riders – march forward with an aura of credence to face each other in their 2nd match and the 8th match of the IPL’s 6th season at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
With the return of their star player, the mighty Shane Watson, who was unable to join in for their 1st match against the Daredevils, Rahul Dravid is likely to give a tough time to the Knight Riders’ bowlers with an unexpected yet thrilling batting side which might score against the odds – Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny, Kusal Janith Perera and Owais Shah being the most prominent amongst them.
In the bowling unit, Sreesanth, Rahul Shukla and Brad Hodge may contribute along with Kevon Cooper, whose yorkers may turn out to be of great advantage once again to help shelling out the KKR’s batting side in the death overs.
However, the giant Royals need to work on their fielding as they missed Warner’s catch twice in their 1st match against Daredevils, which was likely to cost them an arm’s length but were rescued by Cooper’s spectacular yorker show.
After Debabrata Das’ brutal batting show, Lakshmipathy Balaji’s destructive performance with the ball demolished the Titans. After being invited to bat first, Kolkata put 188 runs on the scoreboard. After that, they cut short Titans’ chase to 89 runs and grabbed a huge 99-run victory.
After seeing the soaring start of Kolkata, Martin van Jaarsveld, the Titans’ skipper, might have thought twice about his decision to take fielding first. Manvinder Bisla was aggressive from the very onset while the skipper Gautam Gambhir started rather slowly. Cornelius de Villiers dismissed Bisla but only after the latter scored 27 off just 14 balls.
After that, Brendon McCullum joined Gambhir and the duo made a 63-run partnership off only 33 deliveries. McCullum’s stroke-laden innings was ended by Villiers at the 9th over. He scored 36 off 20 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Gambhir continued to battle on. However, Kolkata then lost their way due to Wiese’s dismissing Jacques Kallis and van der Merwe’s double strikes that removed Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan. However, that was only the beginning of the Titans’ sufferings as the dismissals brought Debabrata Das on the crease. He just demolished the Titans’ bowling with an unbeaten 43 off only 19 balls. Kolkata ended up at a commanding total of 188 for 5.
Titans eye a semi-final berth as they take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the second match to be played on Sunday in the Champions League.
The competition is still very open in Group A, though it could possibly change quickly even before this match gets underway. Both teams will have an eye on the Scorchers-Daredevils game preceding it as it throws up several permutations and combinations into the mix.
Titans currently have two wins from as many matches and another win will confirm their spot in the final four. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders have been unable to register a win and they are all likely to be returning home soon.
To make matters worse, both teams have more than just their opposition to worry about with the rain threat looming large for the evening match.
Titans overcame Auckland by 59 runs in their second match through a combination of solid batting performance combined with a bowling effort that was up to the mark.
Jaques Rudolph and Farhan Behardein have shaped themselves up as two of the big batsmen from their side. The bowlers have not been far behind either with Alfonso Thomas and Ehly Mbhalati picking up three wickets apiece. Mbhalati has been declared fit for the match after worries over his availability initially.
Champions League's group A moves from Johannesburg to Durban with the teams fiercely looking to exchange blows in order to earn valuable points. Kolkata Knight Riders will come head to head with Perth Scorchers with both teams in search of their first points. The match will be played on Wednesday.
An early flight back home could become inevitable for Kolkata Knight Riders after two embarrassing defeats in a row. In both their outings, the IPL champions have hardly been a shadow of their self that got them the domestic trophy.
The batsmen have struggled so far and that has been the main cause of concern. The top four have failed to get going and that automatically puts the pressure on the lower order. Jacques Kallis is yet to score a run while captain Gautam Gambhir has managed scores of 0 and 5 in his two outings.
Brendon McCullum will look to break free in order to restore the team's chance that would be eliminated in case of another defeat.
Their opponents, Perth Scorchers, are not faced with such a dire situation but know that a defeat will severely hamper their chances of progressing through. They lost to Titans by 39 runs after the batsmen failed to attack in a tall run chase.
There is plenty of firepower in the batting order but needs to translate it into runs.
Despite no international cricket being played currently, there is no dearth of action for the fans as a new week starts with more matches from the Champions League. After the double-headers over the weekend, Monday will witness only match being played in Group A with Auckland Aces taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at Cape Town.
The winners of the Indian Premier League received a beating in their first outing on Saturday as Delhi Daredevils trounced them by 52 runs. The Knight Riders were short of answers to the pace attack deployed by their rivals.
While Auckland may not have as menacing an attack in comparison, they still have a fairly effective collection of individuals who can trouble the batsmen. As it is, expectations will be high from the Kolkata batsmen after the top four batsmen had three ducks and Manvinder Bisla's solitary run between them. The bowlers do give them hope, specially Sunil Narine who has not bowled to many of the batsmen from the Kiwi franchise.
Laksmipathy Balaji though is likely to be axed after a disastrous performance that saw him go for 61 runs in four overs.
Auckland Aces, their opponents, have been in South Africa since more than two weeks and have had to earn their way into the main round of Champions League. They were put through a qualification round that they topped by winning both their matches - against Sialkot Stallions and Hampshire.
Virender Sehwag will be available for the first match of his team Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League Twenty20. Delhi will play against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday. Sehwag has been suffering from ankle injury. However, he is now completely fit and has taken part on his team’s warm-up match against Sydney Sixers on Thursday.
TA Sekar, the team mentor of Daredevils, confirmed Sehwag’s recovery and obtaining clearance for fitness before going to South Africa. An Official of the BCCI said that they had nothing to do with Sehwag taking part in the Champions League, as it was a matter of the respective franchise.
Earlier, it was not clear whether Sehwag would play in the Champions League. He had a strain in the ligament of his left ankle. He picked up that injury during India’s match against South Africa in the Super 8 round of the recent Twenty20 World Cup. In that match in Colombo, Sehwag had to leave the field during the batting of South Africa.
He could not make a comeback in that match and it was known later that he might require two week’s rest for recovering from injury.
Over the past year, the fitness of Sehwag has been remained a matter of discussion. He had to take a shoulder surgery immediately after the 2011 World Cup. But, he delayed that for playing in the IPL and worsened the condition of injury. As a result, he missed the full series of India’s West Indies tour and half of the side’s Test series against England.
