New Zealand tour of England to clash with IPL
It will be interesting to see whether the main players will want to play for the national side.
New Zealand's England tour will clash with the IPL
New Zealand’s England tour this year is likely to clash with the schedule of the 2013 Indian Premiere League (IPL) season. It will force the skipper Ross Taylor, Daniel Vettori, and Brendan McCullum to make a choice between the IPL and the series for the national team.
This year, the IPL is scheduled to begin on April 3 and is likely to go on till the end of May while the warm-up matches of New Zealand will start from may 4.
The schedule conflict seems to be a violation of the terms made between New Zealand’s player’ association, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC), and the six foremost domestic associations.
According to the agreement, which was supposed to be validated for eight years, the board would keep for the players a clear window for the IPL.
The deal was made in August 2010. Since then, only one IPL season has passed when the board kept no international commitments for the New Zealand cricketers. Right now, five New Zealand cricketers have ongoing contracts with different IPL franchises. These players are Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettory, Jesse Ryder, and Nathan McCullum.
Ryder’s contract with the NZC will be expired in June but other New Zealand players taking part in the IPL like the fast bowler Doug Bracewell and the allrounder James Franklin will be in line for contracts.
However, unlike West Indies, IPL will not cut much strength to the New Zealand side.
New Zealand will play two Tests, three ODIs, and two Twenty20s in the tour.
