In the first match of BPL today, the Sylhet Royals finally lost their first game in this edition of the BPL. They lost to the Dhaka Gladiators, and by a fair margin as well. The match was hosted in Chittagong.

Darren Stevens played a major role in getting the Gladiators to an above 150 score. He scored quick-fire 55 runs of just 35 balls. Anamul Haque blitz also helped the cause of the Gladiators. He made 32 off 18 balls, smashing 3 sixes.

Sulieman Benn and Sohag Gazi, the two spinners, bowled well for the Royals.

The Royals started poorly, and lost early wickets as well. Only Mushfiqur Rahim saved face with his 41 off 37 balls. Also, the three runouts did not help the cause of the Royals, and they could manage a mere 127 for the loss of 8 wickets.

The two new ball pair, Mashrafe Mortaza and Alfonso Thomas, bowled extraordinarily for the Gladiators, the later taking 2 wickets as well.

In the second match, the Rangpur Riders registered an unexpected victory against the Khulna Royal Bengals. This match was played in Chittagong too.

Batting first, the Riders could only manage a paltry 122 in their full quota. The Irishman, Kevin O'Brien top scored with 24 off 30 balls. The entire innings was extremely sluggish.

For the Bengals, all the bowlers bowled tight, but Daniel Harris was the best bowler with figures of 3 for 22, in his 4 overs.

The Bengal batsmen got starts, but could not capitalize. And, to further dent the progress, the lower order and tail was blown away by Fidel Edwards.

Edwards finished with 4 wickets, and gave away only 11 runs in his 3.4 overs. The Riders captain, Abdur Razzak also bowled well, and grabbed three wickets.
