The player auction for the sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been scheduled to hold on February 3.
The IPL 2013 player auction will be held on February 3
The announcement came on Friday. A workshop was held in Jodhpur where the decision was conveyed to the representatives of all nine franchises. Later on Friday, Sundar Raman, the chief executive of the IPL, tweeted the news. The auction will see 37 players going under the hammer.
The authorities were yet to finalize a venue for the auction. However, the representatives were informed that the event would be held in a metropolitan city. According to earlier decision, the auction was supposed to be held on January 12. However, the authorities later decided not to let the event clash with the ODI series between India and England, which is scheduled to start from January 11-27.
Apart from informing the representatives about the schedule and date of the occasion, the IPL organizers also made a number of presentations about the sponsors’ obligations, player regulations, etc. and showed them on the workshop. It was followed by one-on-ones with the team owners of all the nine teams.
Without disclosing the name, a franchise official said that the workshop had nothing more than regular routine exercises, similar to the workshops happened earlier times. According to him, the workshop marked the beginning of a new season when everyone needed to start taking preparation.
The sixth season will be started on April 3 when the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will host Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Eden Garden. The format of this season will be the same as the one of the last season. Before the playoffs, each of the nine teams will play against each other at home and away match. Total 76 matches will be held at 11 venues in this season.
