Forrest who is on the verge of winning his first ODI cap for Australia has been tipped to become a Test player soon enough by current Australian ODI and Test captain Michael Clarke. Forrest played alongside Clarke for New South Wales before he moved to Queensland.

Clarke admired the technique of the 26 year old Queensland player and said that his performances for Queensland in the last year or so have been pretty impressive. Michael Clarke also remarked that Forrest is a gifted player and has the capacity and the potential to not only represent Australia in ODIs but also in Tests for a long time to come.

Clarke wasn’t ready to spill the beans on whether Forrest was going to be included in the final XI for the ODI against Sri Lanka or not but said that it is great for Peter Forrest that he is in the squad and is getting a feel of how the Australian dressing room is like. Clarke said that even though he could not confirm whether Forrest would make the final XI but said that he hoped that whenever Forrest would get the chance, he would do justice to his potential and get a big score.

In the build-up to the game against Sri Lanka, Clarke was quizzed about Jayawardene’s comment regarding the bowling attack of Australia as a weak point. Clarke responded by saying that it was Mahela’s opinion and that he was just concentrating on playing impressive cricket. He said that there are a lot of points that need addressing in the Australian ODI unit and said that they are already working on these points in the training sessions.

Clarke said that there are tougher tests awaiting his team and said that the team would need to prove its mettle all around the world if they want to be looked at as a dominating power again.

Clarke said that he missed the India vs. Sri Lanka game as the Australian team hotel didn’t show it and only got the score updates from Twitter. He said that the team has already seen a lot of videos of Sri Lankan players and already know what to expect.

The match will start on 10th February at 4:20 GMT.
